Magarjong Magarjung / Nagri Tea Estate / Nagri Farm

British had discovered the scenic beauty and potential of Darjeeling soil and begun tea plantation in high hills in the Himalayan foothills of Darjeeling.

A  British man called Mr. Green hill had come to Darjeeling to start a dairy farm. In search of perfect place for farming he chooses an area which was famous and where Gorkha had built a fort during Sikkim-Nepal War which had began in 1814. (Gadi   in Nepali a fort in English)

“Nagri” is probably a typical British distortion of the words “Naya Gadi” which means a new fort of Gorkhas in the territory. Now in this fort of Gorkhas’ a temple has been built up called Gadi Mandir at Nagri.you can visit this Gadi Temple of Gorkha Warriors in Nagi Farm. Tea Estate.

In course of time Mr. Green Hill converted his farm into a tea garden in 1876 , but the name stuck, local people however calls the area Magarjong.
